In most cases symptoms from a rectocele can be managed with conservative measures including the placement of a pessary and/or skilled pelvic floor physical therapy. This weakened tissue is usually the result of childbirth, chronic constipation and heavy lifting. A rectocele occurs when the rectum bulges into the vagina.
